High Blood Pressure
One of the most commonly cited heart conditions in men is high blood pressure, which puts extra strain on the heart. Symptoms, which include headaches, fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, and swelling in the feet and ankles, tend to come on slowly over time. Hypertension usually develops during middle age and can also be life-threatening, especially for those who have risk factors for heart disease or are at an increased risk for it, such as older men, African-Americans, people who are overweight, people with a family history of heart disease, or those with a family history of high blood pressure. People with diabetes or chronic kidney disease are also more likely to have high blood pressure.
